Ecological Fieldtrip to Khao Yai National Park
AP Environmental Science Class

I recently took my AP Environmental Science class on a camping trip in Khao Yai National Park. Spencer also came along as a medic/deepwoods discipline expert (with all of that experience working with criminals in outward bound). We camped out, cooked over the fire, collected field data comparing vegetation types in different areas of the park, conducted a water quality analysis, swam in waterfalls and jumped off rocks, saw some neat animals, and picked off lots and lots of leeches.

Margaret, Elizabeth, Maluli, me, Janet, and Neelan check out the overlook.

Neelan, Pui, and Elizabeth pick out the macroinvertebrates during the water analysis

Elizabeth, Maluli, and Neelan hard at work collecting veg data

We had some help with the water quality testing from a local.

The park rangers told me the Thai name of this 1m reptile, and my student translated it as "Giant Lizard"...hmmm....

Very few people I know in Bangkok would crawl into the jungle with me in the pouring rain to count vines and moss. What an awesome group of students!
